DEPT OPEN ON WEEKEND QUERIES

PETALING JAYA: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry office in Putrajaya will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm until the end of the month to answer queries from eligible fleet card applicants.

Minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal urged applicants to go to the ministry's office in various states or to petrol stations to check if they were eligible for the fleet card.

So far, only 8,500 or 10% of the 93,908 eligible vehicle owners had received fleet cards, he said, adding that 275,000 vehicles in the country were entitled under the fleet card system.

He urged those who had not applied for the cards to do so at any  Esso, BHPetrol, Shell, Petronas and Caltex stations, before the March 14 deadline.

Shafie said there would be a limit to the amount of diesel a cardholder could buy in a day, depending on the purpose and vehicle size.

Answering a question that some food stalls had increased prices by 50 sen, he said the public should report such cases to the ministry.

"They can call our hotline at 1 800 886 800."
