With a simple tap at BHPetrol stations, MasterCard
PayPass
cardholders can donate to charity.

Malaysia, 15 December, 2009
– MasterCard Worldwide, in
collaboration with BHPetrol, marks the fifth anniversary of
its contactless payment feature, MasterCard® PayPass™
with ‘Tap & Give’, a nationwide charitable initiative that
will involve cardholders and benefit less privileged
children.
From 15
December to 28 Feburary 2010, MasterCard will donate RM1 to
Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation for each PayPass
transaction at over 250 participating BHPetrol stations.
Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation is a charitable non-profit
organization committed to the welfare of children up to six
years old with Down Syndrome.
The
contactless payment feature, OneSMART™ MasterCard®
PayPass™, was first launched in Malaysia in February
2006. The OneSMART™ MasterCard® PayPass™ launch
marked a milestone for Malaysia for being the industry’s
first internationally accepted, dual-interface contactless
EMV payment solution. Since MasterCard PayPass
enables small purchases of up to RM150.00 in Malaysia,
PayPass helps to save cardholders’ time by eliminating
the process of paying cash and making change, as well as
swiping a card and signing a receipt.
“MasterCard is committed to providing cardholders with
innovative payment products, designed to further complement
their lifestyle needs. Since the introduction of MasterCard
PayPass in Malaysia, we have more than 30 merchant
brands issuing and accepting PayPass in Malaysia. To
mark our fifth anniversary of MasterCard® PayPass™,
we are pleased to work with BHPetrol on the meaningful ‘Tap
& Give’ campaign,” said Jim Cheah, vice president, senior
country manager, Malaysia and Brunei, MasterCard Worldwide.
With a simple
tap of their MasterCard PayPass cards, the
cardholders can make a contribution to underprivileged
children. “Our cardholders have enjoyed the ‘Tap and Go’
benefits that PayPass brings and as we enter into the spirit
of giving during the festive season, these cardholders will
also be able to tap and give joy to these underprivileged
children,” added Cheah.
“BHPetrol is always striving to be the best
station that offers the best products and services.
MasterCard PayPass is a convenient payment option
that is simple to use and delivers speed to the consumers as
well as operational efficiencies to our stations. We are
excited to collaborate with MasterCard to roll out the
nationwide charitable PayPass ‘Tap & Give’ campaign
to our customers,” said Mr Tan Kim Thiam, BHPetrol Managing
Director.

MasterCard® PayPass™ Momentum in
Malaysia
Understanding
consumers and their evolving needs, MasterCard is leading
the way in innovating customized products and services;
PayPass is the perfect example in payment technology.
In February
2006, Malaysia launched OneSMART™ MasterCard®
PayPass™, the industry’s first internationally accepted,
dual-interface contactless EMV payment solution. PayPass
combines both contact and contactless interfaces on one
chip, enabling regions where EMV smart cards predominate,
such as the Asia/Pacific, to reap the speed and convenience
benefits offered by contactless payments.
In June 2008,
MasterCard, in conjunction with EONCAP Islamic Bank,
launched the world’s first Islamic Debit MasterCard equipped
with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment
capabilities in Malaysia.
In September
2008, MasterCard, in collaboration with EON Bank, unveiled
another first multi application Debit® card program,
equipped with the MasterCard PayPass contactless
payment solution – the EON Bank Combi Debit MasterCard card,
which is also EMV-compliant.
Today,
MasterCard has expanded contactless payment with PayPass
to 32 markets[1].
By third quarter of 2009, there were nearly 66 million
PayPass cards and devices in use at over 174,000
merchant locations worldwide, including over 30 merchants in
Malaysia.
There are MasterCard PayPass trials and rollouts
currently underway in 32 markets including Australia,
Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, France,
Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea,
Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Norway,
